구동사 4 - Away

원리 1 . 떠나다

1. 기본형 : S + get + away = 떠나다

 She called me just as I was about to leave, and I couldn't get away. = 막 떠나려고 할 때, 그녀가 나에게 전화를 했다. 그래서 떠날 수가 없었다

2. 숙어형 : S+ V + away : S가 V하여 떠나다

 She tried to talk to him, but he walked away. = 그녀는 그에게 말을 하려고 했으나 그는 걸어 가버렸다 

 

원리 2. (시간을) 보내다

 1. 기본형 : S + pass + 시간 + away : 시간을 보내다

 He passed the afternoon away pleasantly enough. = 그는 그날 오후를 아주 즐겁게 보냈다.

 

 2. 숙어형 : S+V+시간 + away : V하여 시간을 보내다

 It's so nice to laze a whole week away doing nothing.= 일주일 내내 아무것도 하지 않고 게으름을 피우면서 보내는 것은 정말 신나는 일이다.

원리 3. 제거하다, 버리다

 1. 기본형 : S+take+A+away : A를 제거하다

 Take away those foolish ideas and work hard. = 그런 어리석은 생각은 멀리 보내고 열심히 일해라.

 2. 숙어형 : S+V+A+away : V하여 A를 없어지게 했다.

 They have shot away all their ammunition. = 그들은 탄약을 모두 쏘아 없어지게 했다

1. 죄송합니다만 서둘러 떠나야만 합니다. 벌써 출근이 늦었거든요 = I am sorry I must dash away now. I'm already late for work.

2. 그 도둑은 누군가가 집 안으로 들어오는 것을 보자 급히 도망갔다 = The thief darted away as he saw someone coming into the house.

3. 그 테러리스트는 자동차 밑에 폭탄을 놓고는 황급히 달아났다 = The terrorist placed the bomb under the car and then scuttled away.

 ( scuttle = 황급히 가다 )

4. 그 남자는 승용차를 타고 몰고 떠났다 = The man got into the car and drove away.

5. 그가 어떻게 눈에 띄지 않고 수업 중에 몰래 빠져나올 수 있었을까? = How did he sneak away in the middle of the class without being noticed?

 (sneak : 몰래 움직이다 )

6. 그녀는 소리없이 떠나 그를 만났다 = She slipped away and met him.

7. 그녀는 낡은 신발을 신고 발을 끌면서 자리를 떠났다 = She shuffled away in her worn shoes.

8. 그 토끼는 개가 가까이 다가오는 것을 보자 즉시 총알같이 달아났다 = The rabbit shot away as soon as it saw the dog coming near.

9. 그 소식을 듣자마자 그는 급히 사무실을 떠났다 = As soon as he heard the news, he sped away from his office.

10. 그는 회의에서 살그머니 떠났다 = He stole away from the conference.

11. 그 죄수는 부수고 감옥에서 달아났다 = The prisoner broke away from the jail.

12. 그 연기는 바람에 실려 표류하면서 떠났다 = The smoke drifted away in the wind.

13. 그는 그 소식을 듣자마자 급히 그의 사무실을 떠났다 = As soon as he heard the news, he burst away from his office.

14. 그는 자기 스포츠카를 타고 굉음을 내며 집을 떠났다 = He roared away from his home in his sports car.

15. 내가 가까이 다가가자 그 고양이는 번개같이 달아났다 = When I approached it, the cat bolted away.

 (bolt 번개같이 움직이다)

16. 사냥꾼을 보자 기러기는 무리를 지어 달아났다 = When they saw a hunter, the wild geese flocked away.

17. 그는 달려나가 자전거를 타고 떠났다 = He ran out and biked away.

18. 수업이 끝나자마자 아이들은 급히 가버렸다 = The children rushed away as soon as the class was over.

19. 그 테러리스트는 살금살금 걸어서 그곳을 떠났다 = The terrorist crept away from the place.

20. 그는 기어서 술집을 떠났다 = He crawled away from the pub.

21. 썩 꺼져! = Hop away!  ( hop 깡충깡충 뛰다)

22. 얘들아 이제 어서 떠나 집으로 가거라. 엄마가 기다리고 계신다 = Pop away home now, children, your mother is waiting for you

원리 2 따라잡기

1. 그는 그녀를 기다리며 그의 일생을 어리석게 보냈다 = he fooled away his whole life waiting for her.

2. 여러분들의 학교생활을 나태하게 보내지 마라 = Don't idle away your school life

3. 그는 지난주를 아무것도 하지 않고 빈둥거리면서 보냈다 = He loafed away last week doing nothing

4. 버스가 출발하기 전에 빈둥거리면서 보낼 수 있는 시간이 한시간 있다 = I have an hour to loiter away before the bus leaves.

5. 그녀는 친구와 이야기하면서 오전내내 빈둥빈둥 보냈다 = She dawdled the whole morning away talking with her friend.

6. 그는 버스를 기다리면서 지금까지 그저 느긋하게 시간을 보내고 있다 = He's just been whiling away his time waiting for the bus.

7. 그는 아무 일도 하지 않고 온종일 지금까지 찔끔찔끔 시간을 허비하면서 보내고 있다 = He's been frittering away the whole day doing nothing

8. 여러분의 학창시기를 헛된 꿈을 꾸며 보내기가 너무 쉽습니다. = It is too easy to dream away your school life.

9. 그는 아무런 소득도 없이 긁적거리면서 지금까지 반평생을 보내고 있다 = He's been scribbling half his life away for nothing.

10. 그녀는 오전 내내 우울하게 보내오고 있다 = She's been moping the whole morning away.

11. 그를 기다리면서 너의 일생을 멍하니 보내지 마라 = Don't moon away the whole of your life waiting for him.

원리3 따라잡기

1. 그가 돈을 모두 흥청망청 써 없애는 데 그렇게 오래 걸리지 않았다=  It didn't take long for him to squander all his money away.

( squander A : A를 헛되이 쓰다. 탕진하다)

2. 백 번째로 그는 마음속에서 그녀의 생각을 밀어서 없어지게 했다 = For the hundredth time he pushed the thought of her away from his mind.

3. 죽은 나무를 쳐 버려라 = Prune the dead wood away. ( Prune : (나무가지 등을) 치다, 진정하다)

4. 이 약을 먹으면 당신의 핏속에 있는 독을 깨끗이 해 없애는 것을 도울 것이다 = If you take this medicine, it will help to purge away the poison in your blood. 

(purge : 깨끗하게 하다, 정화시키다)

5. 그 상의 코는 수없이 많은 관광객들이 문질러서 없어졌다 = The nose of the statue was rubbed away by countless tourists.

6. 그는 자신의 모든 권리를 문서로 포기했다 = He signed away all his rights.

7. 그 간호사는 상처를 감싸기 전에 스폰지로 피를 제거했다 = The nurse sponged the blood away before covering the wound.

8. 남은 주스는 쏟아 버려라 ; 상했다 = Pour the rest of the juice away ; It went bad.

9. 허리케인은 심지어 대형 트럭도 날려 버릴 수 있다 = Hurricane can blow away even a large truck.

10. 그는 잔가지 몇을 전정가위로 제거했다 = He sheared away some twigs.

11. 그녀는 한 쪽 소매를 가볍게 대서 눈물을 제거했다 = She dabbed away the tears with a corner of her sleeve.

12. 그녀는 낡은 가구는 버렸고 새 것으로 샀다 = She flung the old furniture away and bought some new.

13. 그녀는 그 피를 씻어 버리려고 애를 쓰고 있다 = She was trying to wash away the blood.

14. 그 살인자는 그가 있었던 흔적을 닦아 없앴다 = The murderer wiped way all signs of his presence

15. 그는 마치 자신의 인생을 던져 버리려고 하는 것 같았다 = He seemed to throw his life away.
